Reading Club
Educational ResourcesWildlife Associate's Wildlife Reading Club has inspired over 35,000 students to read over 175,000 non-fiction books on nature and wildlife. Working in cooperation with teachers, the Wildlife Reading Club encourages K-8 students to read books and write reports with a variety of exciting and engaging incentives. The objective of the program is to increase literacy, awareness of natural science, and enhance reading and writing skills among the students. Because the Wildlife Reading Club provides incentive to the students, it becomes a useful teaching resource for the teachers.

Our instructors explain the guidelines to the students at the end of each school assembly. Each student must read 2 non-fiction books about animals or nature, and write a short report about each book. Students give the reports to their teacher with a registration form. The teacher then signs and forwards the registration form (PDF file, 15 KB) to Wildlife Associates. (The teacher keeps the reports.) We mail a free photograph of one of our animals for every two books read. If a student reads 20 or more books, we send a total of 10 photos and a special bonus gift. Flyers are left with the teachers to explain the process.

"It was so wonderful, we were all mesmerized. What a way to learn respect for all life, including our own."
